We Compete As One took part in VK Fest 2022

We Compete As One became the only charity foundation that organised sports events during the VK Fest in Moscow. Each day of the festival began with an energetic exercise with Olympic athletes, members of the Foundation’s Council of Champions and friends of WCAO. On the first day, the warm-up session was hosted by Ekaterina Bobrova, the Sochi 2014 Olympic champion in figure skating, and Yury Postrigay, the London 2012 Olympic champion in rowing. The next day, the warm-up relay was picked up by Nikita Mazepin, the winner of the 2022 Silk Way Rally and the founder of WCAO, and Margarita Mamun, the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics.

The famous basketball team PENA and its coach Denis Bergman became special guests of the venue. The team was represented by the music artists Artem Amchislavskiy (Amchi), Lale (Lala) and Pavel (Wonda) from LOVANDA band, DJ Cherocky and DJ Kiida. The players took part in a 5×5 game against Team WCAO, and then in a streetball tournament. On the second day, PENA was joined by the popular Russian blogger Danya Milokhin. The event attracted numerous spectators, as well as Paralympic athletes – beneficiaries of the Foundation: Akzhana Abdikarimova and Yulia Mikheeva.

One of the key sports events of the VK Fest was a beach volleyball match between members of the Council of Champions and the Foundation’s friends. Nikita Mazepin, Ekaterina Bobrova and Alexander Sukhorukov, an Olympic silver medalist in swimming, played against a team of Nikita Nagorny, a member of the Council of Champions and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics, his Olympic teammate David Belyavskiy, and Vlada Chigireva, a two-time Olympic champion in synchronised swimming. The referee of the match was Ksenia Dabizha, a Master of Sports in beach volleyball.

“I would like to thank all the athletes and guests of this very intensive weekend festival. We’ve seen a real community of outdoor activities enthusiasts, from rookies to Olympic champions in various sports. Being a part of the festival helped us tell them more about We Compete As One and present the Foundation to a wider audience. I would also like to thank the organisers of the VK Fest and, of course, my own team for their smooth and efficient work,” said Nikita Mazepin, the founder of We Compete As One.

The event was held on July 23-24 at the Sport festival zone on the basketball and volleyball courts of Gorky Park.

We Compete As One foundation provides comprehensive support to athletes suspended from competitions for non-sporting reasons.
